Description of Service:
The Family Support Project is located in the grounds of Scoil Mhuire National School in the Shanganagh-Rathsallagh area of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown. The Project has been open for four and a half years now. It is a small locally based project whose staff have the training, skills and experience necessary to meet the presenting needs of children, young people and families in the area. The Service is working closely with the statutory, voluntary and community organisations already working in the area.
The Project provides targeted services to meet the identified needs of families in the area. Some of the services include practical supports to families to meet their individual needs, for example, groups to promote parenting skills and mother and toddler groups. There is also provision for therapeutic support services attached to the family support component, for example, counselling and play therapy.
Services we provide:
- Individual work with families
- Individual work with children
- Group work
- Parenting Programmes
- Summer Project
- Information sessions and support on various issues
Families and children may be referred to the service by themselves, GPs, Public Health Nurses, Social Workers, Schools and Colleges, Community Groups and other relevant agencies. Referral forms are available from the Project Leader.
