Organisation
The Cottage Home Child and Family Services are managed by a Director of Services who is accountable to a voluntary Board of Management. There are two Residential Services, one house is in South County Dublin and one house is in North Wicklow.
Each Residential Service has a Manager, a Social Care Staff team and a panel of Relief Social Care Staff. Each Service offers residential care to four young people, both male and female. All Staff employed by the Cottage Home Child and Family Services hold a professional qualification relevant to the Services.
What is Residential Care?
Residential care is for young people aged between thirteen and eighteen years who cannot reside at home for periods of time and who are cared for by professional, qualified care staff in a house in the community. These young people are referred to the service by a Social Worker who will also be working with the family. The young people continue to attend school or SOLAS or other educational programmes and are encouraged to continue with their leisure interests such as sports, drama, music, etc., in their own home area where possible.
The support we provide to a young person during their period in care is determined by both their own and their families’ needs. It is underpinned by a Care Plan devised and completed by a Social Work team in conjunction with the family, the young person, the care team and any other interested professional parties involved in the young person’s life. From this Care Plan, a Placement Plan is designed to monitor their needs and to ensure that all areas of need are being addressed.
Our work is underpinned by The Welltree Model of Care.
